What to expect when you choose CareChoice as your care home.
Every person needs a safe place that they can call home. At CareChoice, we have 30 years’ experience in managing specialist homes in Ireland. We provide top quality, residential alternatives for retired individuals. Our range of tailored services suit independent and assisted living, and nursing home care.
We always strive to provide a home away from home for our residents but know that the initial move can be daunting. So here’s what you can expect when you choose CareChoice as your care home.
When will I move into a CareChoice residence?
You will move into your new home on a date that has been agreed between you, your family and our CareChoice team. You can read our previous blog to see a checklist of the documentation and items you need to bring with you on the day. We also advise that you arrange a visit to our CareChoice care home at least once, prior to your arrival date. You can meet the team and get to know those in your new community. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, or give us a call if you are unsure about your move.
Who will be looking after me at CareChoice care home?
Our team of leading professionals are committed to the highest standards of care, ethics and expertise. We have maintained the values of our very first family run care home and we deliver a quality of care we would want for our own loved ones. Our nurses and care assistants work on a rota and you will have the chance to get to know them all.
How will I be treated at a CareChoice care home?
A CareChoice care home is your home away from home. Our team always treats individuals with respect and dignity. We strive to provide our residents with a safe and connected community where they can live a full life. In particular we encourage engagement with family, friends and the broader community. We also encourage residents to take an active role in choosing their own activities and outings.
How will I get my medication at the care home?
Our pharmacy supplier delivers your prescription daily. In addition, they will also provide emergency medication if you need it. Our registered nurse will administer your medication to you as and when it is needed. Residents can also be facilitated to self-administer their medication if they prefer. This will require an assessment by the Director of Nursing and/or GP. Don’t forget to look at our checklist here to see exactly what GP information you need to bring when you arrive.
What services will I be offered at a CareChoice care home?
We have a wide range of services available. These my vary across our six care homes so you should ask a member of staff for more information about these in your particular care home. Some of these services may be an additional charge. These services include;
- Religious services
- Daily newspaper delivery
- Massage and alternative therapies
- Local GP services
We also arrange for an optician check-up every two years and a dentist check-up annually. Both are funded by the General Medical Services. We will discuss all additional visits, treatments and associated costs with you.
Should you need to attend the hospital for an appointment, you can arrange to have a family member take you. In exceptional circumstances, a staff member may accompany you. This will be an additional cost.
Who takes care of my laundry at a CareChoice care home?
You can either ask a family member or another option is to have the laundry done by our in-house team. Our laundry staff will collect the items from your room and return them to you. In addition, please make sure that your items are labelled. We can arrange to have your labelling done in the laundry in the care home. There will be a small fee for this service. Simply bring any new items you have bought or brought from home to our reception desk and a staff member will assist.
What recreation opportunities can I expect?
All of our activities are resident-led. So this means that you get to choose which activities you would like to see available every month. Some of these activities in our care homes include:
- Music sessions– we love to have live music, dancing, drumming sessions, choirs and harpists in our care homes.
- Regular outings -Our residents recently choose to visit the Model Railway Village, Myrtleville Beach, Crawford Art Gallery and more.
- Fit For Life programmes
- Board games and card games
- Arts & crafts and flower arranging
- Gramophone society and knitting groups
- Library trolley
- Afternoon tea and coffee mornings (these sometimes take place outside the care home)
These activities are mostly included in our CareChoice standard recreation programme monthly fee. We will therefore discuss any additional costs with you prior to booking the activity.
