Olympic fever at Clonakilty care home
On your mark, get set, go! Our Clonakilty residents are preparing to take part in the annual Fit For Life Olympics next week. This is the pinnacle of a year of hard work and focus by our residents, many of whom show huge dedication to maintaining their health and fitness.
Our weekly Fit For Life programme across all our care homes allows residents to learn more about the benefits of keeping active. The initiative is specifically tailored for the older person and includes a wide variety of fun exercises for people of all abilities. Staying active is a very important part of life at CareChoice and participation in exercise activities can improve mobility, flexibility and balance.
The annual Fit For Life Olympics is an opportunity for residents to demonstrate their skills and abilities that they have worked hard to achieve and maintain. Two teams of mixed abilities take part in the event. Each team has approximately 12 members, and they nominate a resident to take part in one of the various categories. These include a penalty shoot-out, golf, obstacle course, and the always hilarious egg-and-spoon race.
Just like the Rio Olympics this year, we believe that success comes from building a supportive team around you. Our nurses are on-hand throughout the year to help our residents achieve their goals and we encourage family and friends to acknowledge our residents’ hard efforts. On the day, our staff facilitate the event and cheer on the participants. At the end, everyone is presented with a certificate and the winners go home with gold medals!
